DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- Police said one of the two suspects accused of stealing beach bags and then using a key in one of the bags to rob a Daytona Beach Shores condo has
his name written all over the crime.
“We thought they were looking at us, but they were actually scoping out people’s bags,” said beach visitor Lauren Gilliam.
Gilliam, her parents and sisters were on the beach behind the Sand Dollar Condominium last week when they noticed two men loitering and repeatedly walking by them. Suddenly, the men grabbed two unattended bags and ran up to the pool deck.
Police said surveillance cameras showed the two thieves and that one of the men was not wearing a shirt and had his last name tattooed on his back.
“Yes, 'Casey' written between his shoulder blades, kind of cursive writing, but all different letters,” said Gilliam.
Daytona Beach Shores police said Matthew Casey, 29, and an unidentified juvenile found the numbered key to a condo unit in one of the bags and burglarized the place. Both were arrested.
Casey has a previous criminal history so the name tattoo and a distinctive yin-yang tattoo on his arm were a part of his rap sheet, police said. Police said they put together a tattoo lineup and the family of witnesses picked them out. Then, police matched them to Casey.
Police said he confessed.“We appreciate it,” said Daytona Beach police spokesman Mike Fowler. “
We wish more criminals would do things like this. I mean, he obviously used no sense whatever when they planned this out.”
The victims in the condominium returned to Indiana without their stolen belongings. Police said the MP3 players, cell phones, credit cards, $1,200 in cash are probably gone.

Would you be able to identify this tattoo if he robbed you??
