I was left utterly confused last night  Are they in parallel worlds now? In one instance the bomb went off and they went back, and in the other they went forward 30 years

Yeah, Colin. One is the whatever happened, happened timeline. For them, they could not change the future as Faraday originally predicted. the other is what happened when the bomb worked.
However, there's speculation that as the new timeline was not meant to be, time will auto correct itself and the two worlds will collide/blend into each other.
It's believed that Desmond on the plane, and then disappearing, the cut on Jacks neck are anomalies creeping through from the other timeline. And that these will get worse as the timeline goes on longer and longer.
Christians body, and Lockes knives disappearing could be explained by this too. We might see them magically appear in the timeline that was meant to be.
